A Lenten Journey Series

Hi, hi makeup loving friends!

First things first, a (very) late thank you for those who participated in my second Classy Weekends blog hop! Check back this Friday, Feb. 15 for Classy Weekends #3!

Now for the seriousness of this post; I know what you're thinking, "A Lenten Journey Series," o-m-g...there's Jessika being boring again! But seriously guys, this will help me grow (for the better). At least that's what i'd like to think.

For those of you that practice a religion that practices lent, you know what this time of year is about. Forty days of giving up something practical like soda, Facebook, Twitter etc. Cool, I've already done all three, so what do I do now? As I sat and thought of the crazy and trust me, I've tried talking myself out of this one all week, I needed to accept this challenge. Drum roll please! *Drum roll* This lenten journey will be dedicated to giving up most things vanity! *Gasp* I know right?

Now, I definitely know what you're thinking, "Jess Classy is a makeup, hair and lifestyle blog and Jessika already writes more about lifestyle than anything else on this planet! Why on earth would she give up makeup?!" And here's my explanation; I have become sickly obsessed with makeup. I love it, but there's a difference in doing it for fun and doing it because you have low self esteem in what you look like when you wake-up in the morning. I've made myself believe that putting on makeup is a hobby, but if you hear me in the morning, I complain non-stop about my under-eye circles and acne scarring on the reg. Ladies (and gents), we don't need to be afraid of those dark under-eye circles! We don't need to be afraid of our acne scarring! We need to embrace our imperfections! While talking this over with my mom, I have come to the realization that I will need makeup for somethings, like a presentation or an interview. With that said, here's a breakdown of my next 40 days...

Between Today (February 13, 2013) and Easter (March 31, 2013)
  • If I choose to, I am only allowed to wear a full face of makeup once a week
  • I am only allowed to wear up to 5 products daily (example: eyebrow gel, mascara, chap stick, bb cream, eye liner)
  • I am NOT allowed to buy any new makeup products during the lenten season
  • I am NOT allowed to go to the hair or nail salon during the lenten season
And to keep track of my progress, my roommate Renee from Wild + Air Photos has helped me to think up a series that I should write during this season of "dryness". Therefore, be on the lookout for a makeup series of products that I buy way too often (example: concealer and mascara) and how to overcome it.

I hope all of you are as excited as I am and I look forward to sharing with you my journey. Unlike my weight loss journey which I totally haven't started by the way. In fact, I am writing this post with a McCafe medium Vanilla Iced Coffee chillin' right next to me.

What are you giving up or taking on for lent?

Happy Ash Wednesday + xo,
Jessika
